How are You Marketing Yourself This Summer?
Hope you've survived the crazy June weather, and are looking forward to a fun and prosperous July and August!
Summer is the best possible time to be marketing your business, as many people take vacations from advertising, and your message will stand out. The same principle applies to advertising in a recession: especially direct mail (obligatory if your business has local clients), as no one else is doing it. So now is the time! We can help you organize and implement your summer marketing plan. Give us a call today at 212-691-1445!
This summer at TomatoDesign.Net, we are busy looking for partners who can cross-market our product to their customers, even as we reciprocate. If you have a clientèle who could use our services, or know any green or woman-owned companies who would like to do events webinars with us, please let us know! For more information about what we do, please go to our links (below.)
Meanwhile, we received such a positive response to our "Copywriting for Business Owners" tutorial, that we are including it — in installments — in our next few newsletters, starting with this one.
Enjoy!
Are You Really Getting Your Message Across?
Ad & Web Copywriting for Business Owners / Introduction
Even if you never write an ad yourself, it is necessary to know something about the process before you hire a professional. Whether your need is for print or web — and these are 2 very different animals! — you can save more money by adding a basic knowledge of copywriting to your skill set. At the very least, you will know what you are paying for!
I’m Nancy Hoffmann, Founder of TomatoDesign.Net. In addition to over 2 decades of design experience, I also have six years as a copywriter at two major ad agencies, working on accounts as diverse as a bank, a menswear store, a restaurant chain and The Chicago Mercantile Exchange, among many others.
I will, in the following issues of our newsletter, cover:
1) The 6 most valuable things you can take away from your initial client meeting.
2) How to conceptualize and draft your piece, whether it is an ad, collateral (such as a brochure), or web content.
3) How to “speak” to the customer, making the difference in whether or not they read beyond the headline and visual in a printed piece. Additionally,
4) Identify the practical and emotional needs of your reader, and gain their trust while building your credibility.
5) Write for the web: a completely different matter which will be dealt with separately.
This series of articles also includes award-winning printed pieces and sample websites illustrating strategies used by top-notch copywriters to influence their readers and underscore their message. I hope you find these examples inspiring!
You probably won’t come away from these lessons as an award-winning copywriter yourself, but getting the basics DOWN — and knowing when to pay for professional help (such as ours) — will definitely help you get your income UP!
Featured Green Business:
Jalima Coffee
The actual growing of these coffee beans benefits the ecological structure of the environment in the sacred land of Chiapas, Mexico, because the soil of the plantations — or "fincas" — is rich, pure and potent. In the high-altitude cloud forest above the jungle called La Selva Lacadona, no pesticides are used, as these would both pollute and give the coffee a bitter flavor. The air is crystal clear in this mountain range, and trees grow on these properties, providing a natural habitat for migratory birds, and keeping the ecosystem intact and flourishing.
The "Jalimas" (Janet, Libe and Marcela) discovered the uniquely rich flavor and aroma of Mexican coffee during a vacation they took in 2001 to celebrate Marcela's birthday. Wanting to share this discovery with others — while also benefiting the local coffee growers — they began to import the coffee beans and other organic products from this region, (which I also know and deeply love from having lived there for three years).
If you live in the New York City area, you can buy Jalima coffees at The Garden of Eden chain of stores.
